Neck Pain

Neck pain is a common ailment that can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor posture, muscle strains, and injuries. Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, drug-free approach to treating neck pain that has been used successfully for many years. In this article, we will discuss chiropractic care for neck pain and the benefits of this form of treatment.

What is Chiropractic Care for Neck Pain?

Chiropractic care is a healthcare profession that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly those affecting the spine. Chiropractors use a variety of techniques to manipulate the spine and other joints in the body to relieve pain and improve function.
The Goals of Chiropractic Care for your Neck Pain are to:
-Reduce Pain and Inflammation
-Improve joint function and mobility
-Increase flexibility and range of motion
-Promote healing and tissue repair
Chiropractors use a variety of techniques to achieve these goals, including spinal manipulation, soft tissue therapy, exercise and stretching, and lifestyle counseling.
Chiropractors use a variety of techniques to treat neck pain, including:
- Spinal manipulation: Spinal manipulation involves applying gentle pressure to the spine to realign the vertebrae and improve joint function. This technique can be used to relieve neck pain and improve range of motion.
- Soft tissue therapy: Soft tissue therapy involves using manual techniques to manipulate the soft tissues of the body, including muscles, tendons, and ligaments. This technique can be used to relieve muscle tension and improve circulation in the neck.
- Exercise and stretching: Chiropractors may prescribe specific exercises and stretches to help relieve neck pain and improve function. These exercises can help to strengthen the muscles in the neck and improve range of motion.
- Lifestyle counseling: Chiropractors may provide lifestyle counseling to help patients make changes to their daily habits that can contribute to neck pain. This may include recommendations for improving posture, changing workstation ergonomics, and incorporating more physical activity into daily routines

Chiropractic Care for Neck Pain

It is my opinion that many cases of simple neck pain can be helped by chiropractic care. When the symptoms are serious consultation with a medical provider is just as important to the patient's overall health. This an area of healthcare in which we excel. A bone that has subluxated is not able to move properly, besides causing pain. The lack of mobility in the cervical spine puts stress on the nerves that exit the spinal column. Let us not forget the stress on the cervical muscles in this case as well. So by simply realigning the vertebra, we can reduce stress on the nerves and muscles. Now nerve pain and muscle pain can subside easily. With any luck you will be enjoying a good night of restful sleep.
The process of relieving stress on the neck vertebra is called an adjustment. The procedure has helped millions of people who may have had cervicogenic headaches or migraine headaches find lasting relief. By removing the obstruction to the nerve pathway health can be restored. Advil or Aleve work on pain but do not address correcting the spine pain. The absence of pain is a good way to go through your day but if you are searching for a lasting solution to your health issues think of chiropractic care. Most people think of chiropractors as back and neck doctors only. When your shoulder hurt it could be from a problem in the brachial plexus. When your back hurts it could be from the lumbar plexus. A plexus is a nerve bundle that relays information back from the brain to the ends of the muscles. Without nerve information, the muscle does not know what to do. This is a stressor on your nervous system. Continued stress on the nervous system puts your body into sympathetic dominance. You may have heard of the fight or flight response. The body in health operates much better in parasympathetic dominance. Your muscles work better, your back feels better, and your shoulders are not as tight when you receive chiropractic care to address your subluxations. Health is your right, I hope the information provided on this page has been informative. If you would like more information call us 203-656-3636. we are not just back, neck , and shoulder doctors anymore.

What Causes Neck Pain?

Too much time on the phone or computer is a common cause of neck pain these days. If you have been in a car accident a whiplash injury to the neck even years ago can cause you to have neck pain. Sports injuries happen with football, volleyball, and even tennis can cause your neck to subluxate. Your chiropractor is qualified to treat cervical spine subluxations.

The neck is made of seven vertebrae that are supported by a few thin muscles. When the neck gets jarred it can cause you to have what is called a subluxation. The subluxation puts added stress onto the cervical spinal discs and pinches the nerve. So there are so many ways that you can develop neck pain. The question is how do you want to treat it?

Neck Pain Treatments

Most People assume that their neck pain is muscular in nature. They are partially correct in their logic. The subluxated spinal vertebra impedes the flow of information to and from the brain. What starts out as a pinched nerve can quickly elevate to weakness in the upper extremity. Weakness as a symptom is hard to self-diagnose. This is where Advil or Aleve will do you no good and perhaps could make matters worse. Ignoring symptoms is not the path of health you should be choosing. Massage for neck pain and stress makes good sense if you want to loosen up tight neck muscles. The massage will not address the subluxated vertebra in the cervical spine. You should sleep better after a good neck and shoulder massage.
How a Chiropractic doctor can prevent pain and neck symptoms by palpating the cervical spine and searching for subluxations. Let's not forget the muscles that are attached to spinal bones. I personally do some form of physical therapy to address the muscles of the cervical spine. By loosening the muscles we have an easier time adjusting the patient's spine. The Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic have done medical studies showing the efficacy of chiropractic care over medical care for relieving neck pain. So ask yourself is my neck pain a health problem or not?

Chronic Neck Pain

Besides a thorough physical examination of the head, neck, and shoulders most doctors will order X-rays of the cervical spine. This can illustrate cervical subluxations and traumatic injuries. tumors. Further imaging would be MRI which helps doctors to see more soft tissue problems like herniated or bulging discs in the neck. MRI can also show tumors in the neck sooner than x-rays can. This is why most medical doctors will order an MRI when patients fail to respond to conservative neck pain treatments. The extra expense can save your life, and getting your health insurer to pay is another headache by itself.
Nerve Conduction tests can identify serious deficits in the nerve's ability to transmit information from the brain to the rest of the body. This is a painful test so you may want to avoid it. Blood tests can determine if an infection is causing your muscle and neck pain.

The Neck

Patient Care for Neck Pain Symptoms

Doctors can agree that good health in the neck is important. In fact, you will probably sleep better when your neck or cervical spine is healthy. Neck pain can easily rob a patient of good night's sleep. The cervical muscles that are tight and symptomatic can cause you to wake up. Sleep is important for your overall health. Chronic neck pain will not be addressed by medicine. Sleeping pills are not the answer. If you want to prevent neck pain, I suggest you see your chiropractor. Chiropractors are not just back and neck doctors. Lack of quality sleep is a health issue. research shows time and time again that your overall health suffers without adequate rest. Your medical doctor might prescribe medicine to address your neck pain but medicine will not address structural problems. So pain can be mitigated by medicine but chiropractic doctors believe that pain is but one symptom of neck pain. A good doctor wants to know how neck pain impacts your life.

Relieve Neck Pain

A doctor of chiropractic will relieve your neck pain by adjusting the spinal bones called vertebrae. When the spine goes out of place it interrupts the nerve supply to the brain. I feel that qualifies as a health problem, not just a bad neck. By correcting subluxations in the neck we can treat neck pain and prevent neck pain from returning. The cervical spine at the very top forms the brain stem. A healthy spine will prevent neck pain symptoms from occurring. When communication between the nerve and brain is interrupted there are many symptoms besides pain that diminishes health. The absence of pain does not mean that you are healthy by any means. It is easier to stay in a state of health when there is no nerve interference. What I don't understand is why medical doctors do not understand this fact. There is no medicine that I am aware of that will re-establish nerve supply when the cervical spine is subluxated.
