I began my chiropractic journey as a patient when I was a teenager growing up in the Bronx. I expressed an interest in becoming a chiropractor while in high school. My M.D. at the time dissuaded me from going to chiropractic school. He looked down on the profession and told me that I was better off becoming a garbage man instead. This conversation took place in front of my mother. I remember the conversation like it was yesterday. I dropped the idea of becoming a chiropractor.
Years later I injured myself running. I hit a pothole and really messed up my ankle. While my ankle healed after a few weeks. I started having problems with my lower back that kept getting worse. I returned to the orthopedic doctor who treated my ankle. I asked him if the pain in my back had anything to do with the back pain. He told me to stick with the stocks and bond and he would fix my back.
Well my back did not get better. It was getting worse. The pills I was taking made me drowsy and were not helping me at all. Sometimes the pain was so bad that I would have a 350 Lb. co-worker stand on my back to relieve the pain. Now this looked rather strange. A co-worker who happened by asked what we were doing. He suggested that I see his chiropractor. I made an appointment to see the chiropractor immediately.
I showed up, filled out some paperwork, and saw the chiropractor. After asking me a bunch of questions about my condition, he examined me and took some x-rays. He showed me where the problem was coming from and proceeded to tell me how he would fix it — and he did fix it.
I started to feel real good. I was back to running, but I was unhappy at work. I did not want to continue in the financial field any longer so I went back to the original plan I had when I was still in high school. I decided to become a chiropractor studying at Palmer Chiropractic University in Davenport, Iowa. I met my wife Cris in Iowa. We live in Darien and have 5 kids to keep us busy.
I enjoy being a chiropractor. I am constantly studying new ways to help people with different musculo-skeletal conditions (i.e. back pain, herniated discs, carpal tunnel, headaches, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis among other things you may not have known that we treat). It is rewarding to help people get out of pain and it’s always a pleasure to work with my patients.
I look forward to helping you feel your best.
